Remember when you were a kid, the classmate who died in an accident?
Remember when you were in grade or middle school and that plane crashed into that building?
Do you recall the tsunami in Southeast Asia, or the bird flu that killed thousands?
Remember when you were in High School and that boy crashed his car killing himself and also injuring two passengers?
Recall now those who helped you through those moments... remember when you cried on their shoulder and how their strength ebbed and flowed through you.
Recall that science award that you won as you graduated from school.
Recall that little league baseball plaque that you have mounted on the mantel in the living room.
Recall the faces of your friends and how they smile at your successes.
Remember the joy that came from those smiles.
Remember the satisfaction.
Remember the mother who tucked you in at night, and the father who read books to you as you got ready for bed.
Remember your grandmother for babysitting you when your parents needed a rest.
Remember your brother who drove you places when you asked him.
Now remember the girl who died because she was drunk and wondered outside without a coat and froze to death.
Remember the boy who overdosed on heroin, remember the driver that crashed into that house orphaning two boys as they slept.
Remember that your actions are yours alone but that the consequences are burdened by all. Be safe, come back to earth.
