She thought... she could trust him. She thought... She knew him well enough but she didn't know What was going... going through his mind. Yes, he had been drinking... but that's no excuse... for following her up those stairs. NOT an excuse... for cornering her between those rooms. NEVER an excuse... for trying to kiss her ... or trying to reach up her shirt! As she was ... Trying to get away.... he held her... he held her as she ran... and pulled herself, with all her might, down those stairs. She thought... She'd be fine. she thought... she could take it. it was killing her inside calling her mom...waiting...for her calling the police..waiting...for them she thought... the police would do something Now, two years have passed and she remembers it... all too well, like it was yesterday. She thought... somebody would do something. She thought... he would be punished..... She thought... she could trust him She thought.... WRONG!!!
Hi Crystal, thanks for sharing this poem. It's full of anguish, pain and tells the wrongs that big adults could commit to little ones. It still appalls the mind whenever such cruelty and abuse happen to a defenseless child. May you find courage, hope and love in the days ahead.
